Academic staff and teaching at St. John’s school is divided into five Schools. Each School offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in a number of subject areas, as well as research in related areas. From their first day of school, ISL students learn core academic subjects in either French or Spanish. They learn a second language naturally, through everyday conversation and classroom instruction. Over 80% of students enter ISL at Kindergarten from English-speaking homes and leave in 8th grade as bilingual speakers, sometimes trilingual. ISL offers a full immersion experience in French or Spanish (Kindergarten through 8th grade), as well as Mandarin Chinese in middle school.

The primary responsibility of the Board of Trustees is the governance of ISL – to establish policies that define the school’s organizational purpose; to ensure fiduciary responsibility and accountability; and to raise funds and public awareness in support of the institution. The ISL Board of Trustees functions as the school board of the school; however, day-to-day operation of the school is the responsibility of the school principal.
